Maine doesn’t track sexual assault kits, so victims are left in the dark, and Mainers have no clue how many untested kits are sitting in police departments’ evidence lockers.
Maine’s Total Coverage heard from sexual assault survivors who lost faith in the criminal justice system because they eventually stopped hearing updates from law enforcement. They say kit tracking would help.
